Adventures in Grilling

One of the things on my summer to-do list was to learn how to grill by myself. I figured last Friday was as good of a time as any, so I told my husband that he could teach me and I would grill our dinner.

Well, it didn’t turn out so well, and the reason has nothing to do with burnt food.

It has everything to do with a frog:

And with our dog:

Mr. Bailey decided that he wanted a snack outside while Mommy was learning to grill, so he either bit the frog or came very close. Before I knew it, Bailey’s mouth was foaming like crazy and he was spitting up everywhere. (Sorry for the details.)

I immediately went into panic mode and called the 24-hour emergency animal clinic nearby. They said to bring him in, so we (safely) raced him there.

Luckily, it turned out to be a non-poisonous frog, so a simple shot and lots of love made Bailey feel much better by the time we got home. It definitely was scary, and I know that I will always associate my first grilling experience to frogs and animal hospitals.

I did give the whole grilling experience another chance on Sunday night, and everything went much smoother! But, I think I’m going to let my husband continue to be in charge of the grill, while Bailey and I stay safely inside, away from frogs.

  1. Poor Bailey! Glad he is ok. Our Yorkie found an old packet of rat poison in our garage. He was fine, thank goodness. Surprisingly, they are sturdy little guys despite their petite size! As for the grilling, I am always happy to play sous chef :) . Leave it to the guys!
